Hello, I am Laura Byres. My love for gardens started a long time before I ever considered becoming a Landscape Designer. My earliest memories include following my grandfather around the greenhouses in his backyard and thinking they were the most beautiful, perfect places. After graduating from college, I spent two years living in a jungle in the Fiji Islands as a Peace Corp volunteer. The magic of the flora there is a powerful influence in my tropical designs to this day. My own garden is a great example of that.
The heart of good landscape design is creativity and observation. I found myself obsessed with yards, nurseries, gardens and plants. As a young mother new to Jacksonville, I needed to change careers. Before we moved here I was a Research Biologist at the University of Florida College of Medicine. The move to Jacksonville gave me few job options, so I made the decision to pursue what I REALLY wanted to do.
I became a FNGLA Certified Landscape designer, with the help of the Green Industries Institute; some amazing mentors; the Florida Nurserymen, Growers and Landscapers Association; and my personal drive. This designation is a distinction few designers enjoy. My first business designing gardens used the traditional, time consuming and expensive process that only the most well-off can afford. This was fun and gave me some great projects, but ultimately made me realize that good design should be for everyone. Every homeowner deserves the benefit and the happiness of having a functional, beautiful outdoor space without having to spend a small fortune. Landscape Express is now the result of that realization. Thank you for taking the time to visit my site , and I hope that we can be of service in helping you to add both beauty and real value to the home you love.
